OUR PASTOR

Rev. Tony Boyce is a native of Laurens, SC and is the youngest son of three children born to Rev. George E. and Alice M. Boyce. His early days were spent being nurtured in music ministry and he shared that gift with churches across the Upstate. He and his older sister would consistently accompany their father as he served churches as an interim pastor throughout the state of South Carolina. His mother trained them both to be dedicated music ministers.

Eventually, Rev. Boyce shared that gift with people throughout South Carolina, Europe and the Caribbean as a member of his college gospel choir at the College of Charleston. As child, he dreamed of becoming a doctor and his original focus in undergraduate school was education. With a heart for helping hurting people and a mind for teaching people of all ages, he connected them both when he found his eventual calling to the ministry.

He is a 1994 graduate of Laurens District 55 High School. In 1999, he received his BS degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston. Rev. Boyce received his Master's of Divinity degree in May of 2003 from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia with a concentration in New Testament Studies. Rev. Boyce completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Gardner-Webb University with a special emphasis in missions and community outreach.

Ministry Milestones: Lord I'm Available to You

Rev. Boyce received his license into the gospel ministry on April 16, 2000 after preaching his initial sermon, Preparation for a Journey", Acts 9:1-12 at his home church, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Laurens, South Carolina. During his matriculation at ITC, he served as as a chaplain intern at Metro State Women's Prison in Atlanta, Georgia and as a youth pastor of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Duluth, Georgia.

Rev. Boyce was ordained on August 3, 2003 by the Tumbling Shoals Missionary Baptist Association of Laurens County. Rev. Boyce served for five years as the assistant to the pastor of the late Rev. Dr. S.C. Cureton at the Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church in Mauldin, SC.

During his years of service at Reedy River, more than a 100 young people became more actively engaged in community service activities to local area nursing homes and home care services to the senior citizens of our congregation. He also established the church's first e-communications membership outreach.

Rev. Boyce is passionate about youth ministry and has developed several presentations for churches and associations to strategically grow their youth ministries. Rev. Boyce also serves in several positions for the following organizations: Supervisor-Youth Auxiliary: Reedy River Baptist Association, Inc.; 1st Vice President: Greenville Branch of the NAACP; Board Member: Greenville Board: Urban League of the Upstate; Advisory Board: The Black Pages USA, Inc.; Instructor: SC Baptist Congress of Christian Education. Rev. Boyce has been a guest on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and the LR Byrd Talk Show. Rev. Boyce enjoys gospel music, singing, golf, and playing basketball. Rev. Boyce is many other things, but most of all he loves the Lord with all of his heart.

Pastoral Beginnings: To God Be The Glory

On February 28, 2009 Rev. Boyce was elected as the twenty-first pastor of the Mt. Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Rev. Boyce is preparing God's people for ministry that will fulfill the vision of the gospel: to preach the good news to the poor, to mend the broken hearted, and to set free those who are captive. Mt. Emmanuel is developing educational and food ministry programs designed to equip the local church for serving the community.

Rev. Boyce is married to Mrs. Schevelle Thomas-Boyce. They are the proud parents of Miss Jillian Anise Boyce and they currently reside in Greenville, South Carolina.
